CCH undergoes changes

Counselling, Careers & Health have undergone some changes to the services it provides.

Manager of Counselling, Careers & Health Mary McKavanagh said following consultation with the University's Senior Executives, Union and Student Association, the University has made the decision to discontinue the visiting medical practice currently available at CQU Rockhampton.

PhotoID:595 This bulk billing, visiting medical service was originally established in 1984 to provide an affordable and accessible service for Rockhampton students. Rockhampton now has at least two bulk billing medical practices, which are easily accessible from the Campus.

This bulk billing medical service has never been provided at the other CQU campuses. The last day for the doctor’s service is Thursday March 20.

Flu vaccination clinics will still be available during the weeks of the 24 March and the 1 April at the Centre.

Ms McKavanagh said the focus for the Counselling, Careers & Health service will now be directed toward the provision of Health Information and Education sessions at Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Emerald and Mackay campuses.

“Community resources will be utilized to assist with the provision of a variety of illness prevention/health promotion activities for students and staff throughout each year,” Ms McKavanagh said.

From 1 May a more comprehensive staff counselling/employee assistance program will be made available to all CQU staff and immediate family.

Staff (and immediate family) from Gladstone, Bundaberg, Emerald and Mackay Campuses will be able to access counselling, free of charge, for a set number of sessions from selected private providers in each of those communities.

“Counselling, Careers & Health at the Rockhampton campus will continue to offer a staff counselling service for Rockhampton staff, however staff and families will also have the option to seek counselling from private providers.” Further information about each service will be advertised during April.

“With the support of the Division of Staff & Student Services, Counselling, Careers and Health are looking forward to being part of the provision of these services for CQU students and staff.”
