StoryBook Theatre now a touring show

Rockhampton's annual StoryBook Theatre production is now a touring show, thanks to assistance from the Priority Country Area Program (PCAP).

Over the past 15 years, many thousands of Rockhampton school children have enjoyed the StoryBook Theatre production of the CQU Theatre-in-Education Company. Some of the early audience members now have children of their own.

This year, the company of 14 actors from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music's Bachelor of Performing Arts program (in the Faculty of Education and Creative Arts) will perform eight shows for more than 1000 children from grades 1, 2 and 3 in the Rockhampton, Emerald and Biloela areas. Audiences will include children travelling in from small remote schools.

StoryBook's Artistic Director Howard Cassidy welcomed the new era for the production. He said this year's shows were entitled 'To Catch a Sneeze', 'Wizards, Wands and Warlocks' and 'The Plughole Pirates'.

"We have created three short plays inspired by quality children's picture books," he said.

Schools involved in this year’s program include Glenmore Primary at Rockhampton; Biloela State, St Joseph’s, Mt Murchison, Thangool, Prospect Creek, Goovigen and Jambin (all via Biloela); and Emerald State, Emerald North, St Patrick’s, Denison and Comet (all via Emerald).
