Positive feedback to disability survey

The Student Support Centre (SSC) recently conducted an on-line survey of students with a disability at CQUniversity, with the purpose of identifying issues faced by this student cohort and ways of improving services offered.

The survey asked participants questions covering areas of initial contact with CQUniversity, information provided to those who have a disability, support provided by the University (and in particular by the Disability Service) as well as their perception of the learning experience at CQUniversity.

One of the key questions in this study asked students if they perceived CQUniversity to be a place that is supportive and welcoming. Overall, 71 percent of all respondents see CQUniversity as place that is supportive and inviting.

On asking what assisted respondents the most in completing their studies by ranking them in order of importance, 91 percent claimed that ‘personal attitude' helped them most, followed by ‘good personal network' (85%) and supportive staff at CQUniversity (82%). In particular, students who registered with the Disability Service at the Student Support Centre reported satisfaction with the consultation process they were offered.

Results from the survey will be used to inform the review of CQUniversity's Disability Action Plan currently in progress.

If you would like to have input into the Disability Action Plan review process please contact Michelle Kerr at the Student Support Centre on 07) 4930 9456.
