CQU gets $5.5m slice of Federal Government budget

Central Queensland University has welcomed the announcement of a special one-off payment of $5.5 million to the University.
The funding was announced by the Federal Government this month (May 15) as part of an extra $500 million to Australian universities to help rebuild their infrastructure.
CQU is happy with news of the funds
"CQU is pleased to have received this funding from the Commonwealth. It will improve the students' learning experience and is of great benefit to the community," said a university spokesperson.
The Rudd Government has given the funding for priority areas such as:
- Information and communications technology
- Laboratories
- Libraries and student study spaces
- Teaching spaces
- Student amenities.
The funding will provide support for high quality education and student amenities and will boost Central Queensland University's research capacity.
Federal Member for Capricornia, Kirsten Livermore said: "After 11 years of neglect under the Howard Government, this payment will help Central Queensland University to improve their campus infrastructure".
"I am delighted that Central Queensland University will receive this funding. It is fantastic for the area."
