CQU offers work choices in education

Central Queensland University offers school leavers the opportunity to study innovative bachelor degrees while gaining industry experience.

Setting it apart from many other universities, CQU prides itself on offering study programs that incorporate industry experience, making students job-ready when they graduate.

In fact, CQU’s industry-focused programs are just one of the reasons that the University has an impeccable graduate employment rate. More than 90% of undergraduate students find full-time work within four months of graduation - that’s significantly higher than the 80.9% national average.

CQU programs including Learning Management, Nursing, Biology and Performing Arts include real-world work experience as part of the degree.

CQU’s Bachelor of Performing Arts is a unique program for students pursuing a professional career as an actor, dancer, singer or musician.

The program affords students the opportunity to work collaboratively with mentors who are established and experienced identities in the performing arts industries. Students have the further opportunity to gain practical experience in the performing arts industries through selected industry placements, and apply their developing skills and talents in staging productions in a diverse range of community and multicultural settings, venues and events.

In 2006 students were given the opportunity to record a 'Personal Best' (PB) when they were engaged as technical, artistic, staging and events management assistants at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

In an Australia-first, CQU will offer the Bachelor of Human Movement Science (Industry Co-op) program in 2007.

Co-operative education is an educational model that integrates academic studies with paid and industry-relevant work experiences.

Bachelor of Human Movement Science (Industry Co-op) students alternate terms of study and paid work in workplaces specific to the student's future career aspirations within the health, fitness, sport or recreation industries. Work terms are usually four-five months long with students being paid about 50-60% of the accepted industry standard while studying 1-2 other human movement science courses externally.

CQU degrees offering paid work experience also include Engineering, Information Technology, Applied Physics, Business (Diploma of Professional Practice) and Accounting (Diploma of Professional Practice).
