43 set to stride out at Gladstone graduation ceremony

Forty-three Central Queensland University students will graduate at a ceremony in Gladstone this Saturday May 20, from 11:30am.

The official ceremony will begin with a procession of the graduates and staff, from in front of the Gladstone City Council chambers at 11:15am to the Entertainment Centre where the formal ceremony will take place.

The graduates and staff will be in full academic regalia and will be led by a bagpiper.

Acting Head of Campus, Dr Andrew Wallace said that the procession along the main street had become a very important tradition of the day.

“In the past we’ve found that the procession has always been very moving, with family members, friends and the general public lining the route, cheering and clapping to show the graduates how proud we are of their achievements.

“It’s a very impressive sight to see everyone in the University’s full regalia and it is a tradition the city should be proud of,” said Dr Wallace.

Those wanting to support CQU Gladstone’s graduates are encouraged to line the processional route along Goondoon Street from the Gladstone City Council Chambers to the Entertainment Centre from 11:15am.

A number of other awards will also be presented during the ceremony including a Companion of the University award to Gladstone’s Tony Goodwin (Tony Goodwin & Company Solicitors), in recognition of his lifetime contributions to and tireless support of the University and education excellence in the Gladstone community.
