Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

PhD student welcomed as girls' school principal 

CQU PhD student Sue Hornum has been welcomed as the new principal at St Margaret's Anglican Girls School in Brisbane.

Mrs Hornum joined St Margaret’s as the principal at the beginning of January 2007.

PhotoID:3725 Having completed her Bachelor’s degree in English and Fine Art at the University of Nottingham in the UK, Sue’s first career was in Airline Management and Marketing in London with British Airways.

She emigrated to Australia and was involved in her family’s Arts and Crafts business on the Sunshine Coast while raising her family.

In 1990, she commenced her studies in Education, at the University of Queensland, and since then, her career in Education has developed rapidly, with broad experience in teaching, school administration and leadership.

Her school experience has revolved around 3 leading independent schools in Queensland – firstly, at Matthew Flinders Anglican College, where she became Assistant Principal (Students); secondly, at Rockhampton Girls’ Grammar School as Principal from 1999 – 2002; and at St Andrew’s Anglican College, where she was the Foundation Principal since 2002.

Sue is currently in the final stages of completing her doctorate, through Central Queensland University, and is looking forward to graduating next year.
