CQU music and dance students to perform

CQU dance and music students will take to the main stage at this year’s CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Rockhampton Open Day performing some of the work they have been studying in the last few weeks.

The dance students will be performing a selection of dances from around the world including ethnic, indigenous and multinational dance styles. These dances originate from Israel, Portugal, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Serbia, Bavaria and the USA.

These students are all second-year dance students from not only the BPA program, but also the Bachelor of Human Movement Science.

The BPA dance students will also perform their own choreographed pieces on the Faculty’s stage at various intervals throughout the day.

The music students will be presenting contemporary, jazz and modern ballads on the Faculty of Education and Creative Arts stage. These students are second and third-year students studying the music program within the Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) program.

The BPA program enables students to specialise in dance, drama, music, media or the technical aspects of theatre production and affords students the opportunity to work collaboratively with mentors who are established and experienced identities in the performing arts industries. They also have the opportunity to gain practical experience in the industry through selected industry placements and through applying their skills and talents in staging productions in a diverse range of community and multicultural settings, venues and events.

Industry placements are completed in the third-year of the program and have included companies such as Really Useful Company (Sydney), Raw Metal Dance Company (Brisbane), Dance North (Townsville) and various theatre and dance companies throughout Australia.

The program opens up opportunities to careers in vocal performance, dance, acting, television production and event management.
