Research into future housing options
Published on 28 May, 2008
The Institute for Sustainable Regional Development will commence surveying the residents of Moura, Theodore and Biloela as part of a research project titled ‘Ensuring Sustainable Benefits from Boom Periods: A Case Study for a Long-Term Housing Policy in the Bowen Basin'.
The research aims to identify how new projects in the Bowen Basin region will impact on housing and labour markets, and to identify preferred options for housing market development.

This will involve understanding what types of housing are required in the community, what key factors are driving housing markets, and what factors influence the choices about whether to live in the Bowen Basin or in other centres.
The information from the research will help coal companies, local government and communities identify better development strategies for the community.
Community organisations will be assisting the research team to distribute and collect a short questionnaire from a random selection of households in the Moura, Theodore and Biloela areas, starting in the first week in June.
Any member of the community over the age of 18 is welcome to participate in this research project.
