Masters of Applied Science student, Luke McArthur was recently announced the 2005 recipient of the “Chancellor Stan Jones Scholarship”.
Luke graduated from a Bachelor of Physics/Bachelor of Information Technology degree last year and has now begun his post graduate study with the Process Engineering and Light Metals Centre (PELM) at the Gladstone Campus.
He will be working on a project that aims to assess the precision and accuracy of mineralogical analysis of Weipa bauxite using near infrared spectroscopy.
The Chancellor Stan Jones Scholarship is a university award that was established in 2004 in honour of the former Chancellor, Hon Justice Stan Jones. It aims to provide recognition of outstanding academic achievement and to support further higher degree studies.
Luke said it was a great honour and a pleasant surprise to receive the prestigious scholarship award.
“It was extremely gratifying to receive the scholarship in recognition of years of hard work through my undergraduate and honours years,” said Luke.
Gladstone Head of Campus, Associate Professor Robert Prater said Luke was an asset to the campus.
“Having a student of this calibre return to the campus to undertake a research higher degree, and working on a project which is industry sponsored, exemplifies the relevance of the PELM research and development centre to industry in the Central Queensland region.".
