Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Couple who met at Rocky Campus among Jakarta alumni 

CQUniversity Melbourne's Recruitment Executive, Ivy Chung took the opportunity to meet with alumni living in Jakarta whilst on a recent trip to Indonesia.

The nine alumni who attended the January 16 function at Jakarta's Shangri La Hotel were mostly Rockhampton Campus graduates from 1993 to 2010.

"It was great to see so many of our alumni at the function; we hope next time we are able to met with other alumni not only in Jakarta, but throughout Indonesia as well," said Ivy.

Attendees Hong Kah Ing (Bachelor Business, 1994) and Theresia (Bachelor of Business, 1993) met whilst studying at Rockhampton Campus and are married, with their children attending a school in Melbourne.  They export timber to Germany.

Leo Subianto (Bachelor of Business, 2004) studied at the Brisbane Campus and has been working for Standard Chartered Bank for five years, but he now has his own business and publishes the Golf magazines in Indonesia.

Marihot Asi Pasaribu obtained his degree in Rockhampton and immediately began his career for Bank Credit Lyonnaise Indonesia as a management trainee.

"After I gained work experience with the bank and life insurance sector for 16 years, I moved to Generali Indonesia Life Insurance, a subsidiary of The Generali Group, which is one of the most significant participants in the global insurance and financial product markets, " said Marihot (Bachelor of Business, 1994).

"I'm also assisting the Generali Indonesian CEO as Associate Director in developing and producing revenues through partnership distributions heading three sales channels - Bancassurance, Telemarketing and Direct Sales."
