CQU trio gain power engineering bursaries

CQU engineering students Alexander Bletchly of Gladstone, Marc Cochrane of Mackay and Joshua Worley of Gladstone were among 14 Queensland students recently awarded with bursaries to support their studies in power engineering.

PhotoID:3701 The bursaries, presented by Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson in Brisbane (Dec 13), are provided via the Power Engineering Alliance.

The Power Engineering Alliance is a new industry-wide partnership which aims to improve Queensland's access to engineering graduates with power industry skills through a range of initiatives with leading universities, including CQU.

The bursary recipients will benefit from work experience during vacation periods in the Queensland power industry to help broaden their knowledge and understanding and strengthen their capabilities.

The bursaries are each valued at $8000 over a four-year period.

The bursary sponsors – ABB, AREVA, Australian Power Institute, CS Energy, ENERGEX, Ergon Energy, Maunsell Australia, PB Power, Powerlink Queensland, Stanwell Corporation and Tarong Energy - established the program in collaboration with Queensland University of Technology, the University of Queensland and Central Queensland University.

Also in attendance at the event were CQU bursary recipients from previous years: John Amsler, Robert Sutherland, Nathaniel Dunnett and Jodie O’Donohoe.
