Leading Australian director and music theatre legend Nancye Hayes is taking time out from her Wizard of Oz project to spend August in the canefields.
Nancye is directing a student production of Kiss Me Kate, at Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, which is adjacent to a sugar cane farm in Mackay.
Nancye was the original Australian lead in Sweet Charity in the late 1960s and went on to feature in most of the best known musicals over the next few decades.
She has branched out as a choreographer, director and teacher and has recently directed the latest Australian production of Wizard of Oz, which opens in Brisbane in November.
Nancye is likely to meet up with another Aussie music theatre stalwart, Toni Lamond, who is in Mackay on August 16 for a Morning Melodies production at the local theatre.
