The Campus Director's Award highlights leadership qualities of students who excel in all facets of academic life and who have a positive influence on their colleagues.

It is these characteristics that have allowed Jie Tie (Jack) Zeng and Syed Moshiur Rahman to be selected as the undergraduate recipients of this prestigious honour.

Jack Zeng recently graduated with a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) degree from CQU-SIC. A somewhat quiet achiever, Jack is highly thought of by his lecturers and tutors who describe him as a self motivated and committed student.

After receiving offers from a selection of universities, Jack decided that the multicultural learning environment at CQU was right for him, which made his choice to study at the CQU Sydney International Campus straightforward. In the initial stages of his program, Jack had some difficulties with the language and communication, a hindrance which he worked hard at overcoming.

His active participation in extra-curricular activities provided him with the skills and confidence he needed. This included mentoring and tutoring other students, participating in table tennis competitions on campus and getting involved in the Golden Key Society. Furthermore, Jack also works at the Coffee Shop at the SIC and has been involved in the catering of many on-campus functions.

Following the completion of his Diploma in Electronics, Syed Rahman decided to enrol at CQU mainly due to the cultural diversity of the students and convenience of the campus location. Moreover, Syed found the facilities at CQU to be outstanding when compared with other universities, particularly with regards to computer access.

But his academic achievement did not come without some difficulty. Syed had no family or relatives in Australia, which he described as being very tough, but at the same time he felt a greater sense of accomplishment once he had completed his degree on his own. When asked what specifically it was that helped Syed in his achievement that he could pass on to others, he stated that it was important "to go to every lecture and every tutorial".

He has also been involved in Bangladeshi cultural activities and has mentored other students. Having been described as possessing a creative aptitude for programming by his teachers, Syed would like to pursue a Masters degree in Telecommunications.

Congratulations to both Jack Zeng and Syed Rahman on their outstanding achievement.
