Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Success is the AIM 

The Australian Institute of Management (AIM) and the Rockhampton Chamber of Commerce recognized three Central Queensland University organisations for their “innovative and clever” business practices Friday night at the Business Excellence Awards 2002..

The CQU Library, under the leadership of Margaret Appleton received the Major Business Award for 2002, presented by Rockhampton Chamber of Commerce.

PhotoID:249 Ricki Jeffery of Direct Edge, the accredited corporate development agency that draws on the resources of CQU, was awarded with the Professional Manager of the Year, by AIM.

And the Rockhampton Chamber of Commerce gave the Business and Management “Not-for-profit Sector” award to CQU Student Association.

“CQU Library has contributed to the competitiveness of the university through the provision of quality services,” said Margaret Appleton, Director Division of Library Services, who emphasised the library’s strong client focus.

CQU Library manages library services and collections through 10 libraries in Australia and Fiji and delivers services like online tutorials and a virtual reference desk to CQU students located anywhere in the world. It was one of the first university libraries in Australia to have had an automated loans system, have course reading materials available electronically and provide an integrated client services enquiry centre for students located throughout the country..

The Professional Manager of the Year is on a long-deserved holiday. A spokesman said Ricki Jeffery was thrilled to have received the award but “she gives credit to a supportive and energetic team.”.

"She really is an excellent manager. Direct Edge is a calm and harmonious place to work. That's how we feel. She bases our performance on our output," explained co-worker Lyndall Thorpe.

Gary McMurtrie, President of the Student Association said the award demonstrated the organisation’s commitment to “best practices in governance, representation, service provision, marketing and management.” .
