Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Writers invited to workshop in the forest

A Writers' Workshop in the Forest will be held at the Waterpark Cabins near Byfield from September 7-9 this year. 

Participants can develop their writing skills with CQU creative writing lecturer Dr Lynda Hawryluk and Capricorn poet Kristin Hannaford.

‘Writing for Young Readers' and  ‘Being at Byfield' will be 2 of the themes studied at the workshop, both noting the importance of the environment to today's writers.

Well known local writer R.G. Hay will introduce a thought-provoking discussion on ‘Websites for Writers - a Must! Why every would-be Author or Poet should have a Blog'.

A highlight of the weekend will be the Saturday workshop coordinated by Kristin Hannaford who will explore the relationship between works of art and poetry/writing. 

Local Capricorn Coast artists, sculptors, textile workers, painters and wood carvers are invited to join in the Saturday workshop. This interaction between writers and artists will lead to an exciting exhibition next year at The Gallery, Emu Park.

All participants are invited to Sunday's final lunch at Ferns Hideaway complete with poetry, prose and music.
