Guard of honour farewell for Fred

Gladstone tennis students formed a guard of honour on Wednesday, as friends and family farewelled Gladstone’s much-loved tennis coach and CQU student Fred Munckton.

Fred died at the age of 66 this month after a long battle with cancer.

Mr Munckton graduated from the STEPS program in 1998 and went on to study journalism.

In a letter to the editor published in 'The Gladstone Observer', one of Fred’s classmates, Lyn Cleary, said he was a true gentleman.

“I was in many classes with Fred and his humour, inquisitive mind and eagerness to participate in debates and discussion in class greatly enriched my university experience,” Lyn said.

Fred will be fondly remembered by all staff and students who knew him.
