Nationally renowned performers and arts industry identities, including Simone de Haan, Raelene Isbester and Graeme Connors, took to the stage alongside Conservatorium staff and students.

Event co-ordinator Bern Howlett said each performer acknowledged the impact Associate Professor Whateley had on their career.

PhotoID:1122 “There were a number of moving tributes and remarks about how he has created positive changes to enhance the presence of the music in regional locations,” she said.

“Greg will be sadly missed in Mackay, yet he has established programs that will continue in his absence." One of the highlights was the world premiere screening of Graeme Connors' new DVD release, which was recorded at CQCM in Mackay.

Professor Whateley moves to Sydney on October 23 where he will continue his Arts consultancy practice.

Since moving to Mackay in 2000, Professor Whateley has increased student numbers from 86 in 1999 to 432 in 2003, with current postgraduate enrolments totalling 130, which compares to zero in 1999.
