Being accepted into university is a great achievement for anyone, but imagine starting tertiary study when you are only 16 years old.

This is exactly what first-year CQU student Lisa Morrow has done.

Not only is Lisa younger than most of her new peers at CQU Gladstone (she will turn 17 in May this year) she is studying to move into a career normally dominated by males.

However, studying engineering was something Lisa has always been interested in.

"I have always lived in mining towns and had an interest in the mining and engineering field," said Ms Morrow.

Lisa was also the recipient of an Engineering scholarship of $1000 which will help her along her path to her desired career.

She is confident that being a female in a male dominated arena will not be any problem.

"Maybe guys don't think women can do the same thing they do but I am going to prove them wrong," Ms Morrow said.

Lisa will be studying mechanical engineering and hopes it will allow her to travel.
