Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

The crowd enjoyed on-stage entertainment, a full range of study information and the chance to look around the campus during one of the warmest winter days on record.

High school students, family groups and others took advantage of one-on-one chats with staff, lecturers and current students of the university.

A highlight of the day was an informal on-stage chat with graduates who told the audience of their study and future employment prospects. The day was wrapped up by operatic boy-band Formidable who gave a lively musical set complete with broad brimmed hats to keep out the afternoon sun.
