CQUniversity first year exercise and sport sciences student Nyree Humphris has been awarded a $7500 Iwasaki Foundation Scholarship to help ease the financial burden of university study.
The former North Rockhampton High School student said the scholarship was a welcomed boost to her university experience.
Chairman of the Iwasaki Foundation Hugh Grant congratulates Nyree Humphris on her scholarship."The scholarship will help towards the costs of text books, university fees, computer equipment and accommodation. It will take the financial pressure off, and it will make the dollars go further," said Nyree, who has plans on a career either in physiotherapy or exercise physiology.
Nyree celebrated her scholarship success this week, alongside her parents, at a special morning tea organised by CQUniverity and the Iwasaki Foundation.
The Iwasaki Foundation was established by the generosity of the late benefactors Mr and Mrs Yohachiro Iwaski, and was the initiative of Rockhampton businessman, the late Les Duthie.
The Foundation was originally set up to provide benefit to aged, infirm, disabled and needy people, and over the years many people have received support from the foundation in the form of subsidized holidays and accommodation. Ine 2010 the Foundation extended its support to include students in need, through educational scholarships.
Chairman of the Iwasaki Foundation Hugh Grant said this year the Foundation had offered three $7500 scholarships to students who were deemed financially disadvantaged and who would best benefit from financial support.
"The financial success of the Iwasaki Foundation has enabled us to deliver substantial scholarships to those who are in need and we hope to improve this amount in years to come."
CQUniversity Deputy Vice-Chancellor Jennelle Kyd congratulated the Foundation on investing in the life of a Central Queensland student.
"Every dollar given through scholarships makes a difference to the lives of students and scholarships like those offered by the Iwasaki Foundation are greatly appreciated not only by the students but by the community to which that student will one day contribute," Professor Kyd said.
"It is well documented that graduates with higher education qualifications significantly contribute to the success of the organisations and communities they serve."
"We look forward to strengthening the University's relationship with the Iwasaki Foundation and the Iwasaki Company."
