Thanks to an AusAID scholarship, Vanuatu's Vira Kalmanu has really been able to 'account' for himself in Australia.
The high-achieving CQUniversity Bachelor of Accounting student recently won the annual Evans Edwards and Associates prize of $400 plus a plaque and certificate for achieving the highest weighted GPA (Grade Point Average) among Rockhampton region students enrolled in the Company and Association Law, Accounting Systems and Assurance, and Corporate Accounting subjects.
Vira Kalmanu is congratulated by Marni McGrath and Tina Olive from Evans, Edwards and Associates
Mr Kalmanu, aged 22, says he arrived in Australia only three years ago and was proud to achieve academic success.
"The support I gained from AusAID was just super," he said.
"Financially, I don't need to worry. AusAID supports me well with every fortnight salary. The AusAID officers are just great; they support and help you out with everything, e.g. my accommodations, my registrations, etc. They provide me with a lot of social programs to attend, and also other programs to look forward to."
Mr Kalmanu said the AusAID scholarship kept him motivated and he would recommend it to prospective students overseas.
"Since I was given everything that I need, worrying about anything (except my family) is not on my list. So you feel free to study without any disturbance mentally or physically.
