CQU a 'BIGmate' with local industry

Mackay-based Automated Condition Monitoring Company BIGmate and Central Queensland University have entered into a joint development project, which provides mutually beneficial outcomes.
The joint project will ensure BIGmate remains at the head of the pack in providing unique, cutting-edge monitoring solutions for mobile equipment and fixed plant applications.
Opportunities for CQU exist at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. BIGmate will continue to provide experience for IT Co-op students completing paid placements as part of their assessment and the project provides a basis for research topics at a doctoral level.
CQU IT academic Mike Gregory is heading up the project, working with BIGmate staff and CQU's own IT Co-op students.
"The Federal Government encourages such cooperation with industry and universities and CQU's own strategic goals focus its research efforts towards contributing to the sustainability of the regions with which we engage," said Mr Gregory.
Andre Wessels, CEO of BIGmate, is equally pleased with the new found synergy for CQU and BIGmate.
"We preferred to work with the local University on our doorstep and there will be many continuing benefits for us and CQU by doing so," Mr Wessels said.
"The University will gain valuable research, with associated recognition from prospective students and the business community, plus potential placements for IT Co-op students.
"We at BIGmate will benefit from the development of cutting-edge processes necessary to sustain exponential growth well into the future, as well as working with University students who may want to further their careers with BIGmate as we expand."
