Amaroo Artists exhibit in University gallery

Central Queensland University will host an exhibition by the Amaroo Art Group in the University’s Ron Smyth Building (Early Childhood Building) at 240 Quay Street from Friday October 3.

PhotoID:1104 The gallery will be open from 9.30am to 4pm daily until Friday October 10.

The exhibition will feature 87 artworks by this 21-strong art group. The exhibition will envelope a cross-section of themes and a variety of mediums, with a small section devoted to paintings of old buildings in Rockhampton.

The Amaroo Artisits hold three exhibitions a year with the assistance of Woolworths – Northside Plaza, however the upcoming exhibition at the CQU gallery is the biggest for the year.

Profits from the exhibitions are donated to a local charity at the end of each year.

The Amaroo Art Group was originally the idea of Nan Green in 1975 and then consisted of six ladies. The aboriginal word “amaroo” means friendly meeting place, and according to president Betty Hoy they are all friends today – and mostly retired.
