Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Ten growers from the Rockhampton Fruit and Vegetable Growers' Association have visited the Plant Sciences Group facilities at CQU Rockhampton (March 3).

Following presentations by Professor David Midmore on the contribution of Plant Sciences to Horticulture and by Sohail Qureshi on integrated pest management, the group visited the non-invasive fruit quality laboratory, with a presentation by Phul Subedi, and the glasshouse/screenhouse, with explanations on ongoing research on oxygation by Dr Surya Bhattarai and Lance Pendergast.

The group was impressed with the potential applications of Plant Science research to their enterprises.
