University Wins Regional Title

University has stepped into the Rockhampton District Rugby Union (RDRU) season full of confidence after winning the RDRU Regional Championships last weekend.

The students beat the Colts 32-15 in a tough, hard final. Both sides were close to full strength for the match.

PhotoID:98 University were able to gain the use of their players involved with the CSR Readymix Rockhampton Brahmans, whilst the Colts also had players returning from the Brahmans.

It was the unsung heroes however that paved the way for the University victory. Hooker Jordan Massey and second rower Adam De Jong got through plenty of hard work around the field to give them the edge over their rivals.

The second half saw a spirited fight back from Colts, however the injection of half Peter Murphy for University gave them the spark to lift again and win the match.

The real season now starts for University against Gladstone this weekend.

University also has three home matches at the Ian Coombe Oval, Rockhampton campus, this year on the following dates: Saturday 22 June v Dawson Valley - A Grade 3.50pm; Saturday 6 July v Brothers - A Grade 3.50pm; and Saturday 3 August v Gladstone - A Grade 3.50pm.

Come along and support your University Rugby side as they strive to continue on their excellent early season form.
