Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Over 20 nations represented at Brisbane/Gold Coast graduation 

Graduates from over 20 countries attended the CQU Brisbane and Gold Coast international campuses graduation ceremony on September 7, at the Carlton Crest Hotel, Brisbane.

PhotoID:2279 The guest speaker was Mr Cyril Connell, a sportsman who represented Australia, Queensland and Country Queensland in rugby league.

Mr Connell is well known in the Central Queensland region for his direct contributions to the community in education and sport from the early 1950s to the 1970s. Since his retirement from the Queensland State Department of Education, Cyril Connell has been engaged in the support and training of youth as Recruitment Manager for the Broncos Football Club.

During the graduation ceremony, four students from the Brisbane and Gold Coast international campuses were awarded with the Campus Directors’ Award, based on excelling in studying commitment, the desire to lead, the enthusiasm to stand up to challenges and creativity.
