VC encourages teams for Relay for Life
Published on 17 February, 2005
Vice-Chancellor Professor Rickard is encouraging staff or student teams to enter the Relay for Life event to be held at CQU Rockhampton on the weekend of May 14-15.
CQU is a gold sponsor of this worthwhile event, which raises money for the Queensland Cancer Fund.
More than 50 community-based teams have already registered, and organisers are expecting up to 100 teams to be involved on the weekend.
A good show of support for the event from within CQU would send a good message about our community spirit.
Registering for the event is as simple as contacting convenor Val Wex at the Queensland Cancer Fund via 4927 7088.
Val has offered to take registrations by phone to facilitate CQU involvement.
Details are available at: www.relayforlife.com.au .
Relay for Life is 18 hours of fun, with the challenge of completing a walk or run relay style within a team of 10-15 people.
Relay for Life is about participation, families, friends and loved ones; it's especially about uniting the community and bringing people together for a common cause in hope of a cancer-free future.
Teams camp-out at the event and entertainment is provided throughout the evening, with breakfast provided for all participants.
Each team sets about raising funds before the event. A fundraising target of $1000 is placed on each team to make them eligible for entry into the event.
The Rockhampton event is sponsored by CQU, AMP, The Morning Bulletin, Southern Cross TEN and SeaFM 101.5.
