STEPS to celebrate at CQU Bundaberg

The Central Queensland University STEPS program has 2 reasons to celebrate in Bundaberg this weekend. Not only will 76 students be graduating from STEPS, but there will also be celebrations taking place to commemorate the 20th anniversary offering of this pre-university program.

The STEPS graduation will start at 4pm on Saturday, October 7, in the Lecture Theatre, Building 1 at CQU Bundaberg followed by the 20th anniversary celebrations commencing at 7.30pm in the Student Refectory.

The STEPS program provides a pathway into university while at the same time instilling in its students the confidence and skills considered necessary to a successful undergraduate study experience. STEPS bridges the gap for those students who would not otherwise have had the pre-requisite skills and knowledge to be accepted to tertiary study.

“The greatest thing about the STEPS program is the success rate speaks for itself. Students do go on to greater things and as the name suggests it is a step in a different direction. Some students will have chosen higher education studies either here at CQU Bundaberg or another university while others might use their new skills to assist them in finding employment,” said CQU STEPS Coordinator, Ms Karen Seary.

The 20th anniversary celebrations on Bundaberg campus marks the opportunity for past students to congregate and share the successes they have gained since completing the program and to meet with students who have only very recently graduated from the 2006 STEPS program.

“I am particularly excited about touching base with those past students whose lives have been changed in a very positive way because of their experience and success in the STEPS program.” Karen Seary said.
