CQUniversity is spending $9 million to complete a refurbishment of two major engineering buildings on Rockhampton Campus, which missed out on being modernised during previous capital works projects...

The once dour buildings 28 and 29 are being completely gutted for their refit and will have new roofs, exposed verandahs and awnings to give them a striking new exterior too.
Once they have a blank canvas to work with, builders employed by Paynter Dixon Qld will start to create new labs for fluids, thermodynamics, thermofluids, geotech, concrete and structures and electronics.
There'll be a new lecture theatre, a materials testing area, an acoustic test cell, postgraduate areas, a soils store and a multi-purpose project‑based learning lab, all bathed in brand new airconditioning and accessible via a lift.
The project budget includes $1.3 million from the federal government through the Better University Research Funding pool.
Building 28 is scheduled for completion around August and then the workers will move on to Building 29.
