Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Former Treasurer guest speaker for Brisbane and Gold Coast graduates 

Former Queensland Treasurer Dr David Hamill is guest speaker for CQU's graduation ceremony for Brisbane and Gold Coast graduates.

A total of 140 graduates from 27 nations are due to attend the ceremony, from 2pm on Wednesday, August 30 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (South Bank).

PhotoID:3287 Dr Hamill holds directorships in several organisations, including Babcock and Brown Infrastructure Limited and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Australia.

He has held academic positions at Australian universities, is a Rhodes Scholar, a published author on taxation and other political issues and a Fellow of the Australia Institute of Company Directors Diploma (FAICD) and the Chartered Institute of Transport (FCIT). In 2003, he received a Centenary Medal, for distinguished service to the community and the public sector.

As State Minister for Education from 1995 to 1996, David actively promoted the expansion of the Languages Other Than English (LOTE) program. He led trade missions to Papua New Guinea and Indonesia to lift Queensland’s profile and attract overseas students to Queensland universities and schools.
