CQU hosts national business operations symposium

Central Queensland University will host the third ANZAM Operations Management Symposium at the Rydges Capricorn Resort in Yeppoon, near Rockhampton, from June 13 to 14.

ANZAM (Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management) is the peak professional body for management educators, researchers and practitioners, with about 300 individual members and 50 institutional members (representing most Australian and New Zealand universities) as well as members from other countries.

The Symposium will act as a focus for operations management research by providing a venue to present current research and a meeting place to explore collaborative research opportunities.

The theme for the Symposium is 'Managing, Value Adding and the Supply Chain: Challenges and Opportunities'.

The keynote speaker for the conference is Mark M. Davis, from Bentley College, Boston, who will speak on Enhancing Service Operations. Dr Davis is a Professor of Operations Management at the College. His primary research interest is service operations management with emphasis on customer waiting time issues.

CQU’s Paul Hyland, Lee Di Milia and Karen Becker will present a joint paper on 'The Role of Human Resource Development in Continuous Improvement: Facilitating Learning and Change'. They will argue that effective professional development for employees is the key to maximising organisational operations.

Other papers will focus on: how healthcare institutions can better meet the needs of their clients; how strategic leadership can affect firm performance; and value chain management models For further details contacts Sue Woodfield on 4930 6828.
