Region singing off same song sheet, investment brief launch at CQUni
Published on 19 May, 2011
CQUniversity was proud to play host this week as Rockhampton Region launched an innovative new investment brief - a coordinated regional 'blue print' of priority infrastructure needs. The University is a key stakeholder in the investment brief, as it showcases our bid to become a dual sector institution.
Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Brad Carter and Capricorn Tourism & Economic Development Ltd Chair Grant Cassidy stood shoulder to shoulder in launching the folder of key projects on the regional wishlist.

The six infrastructure priorities offered in this document are:
- CQUniversity Dual Sector
- Critical road and rail infrastructure
- Water infrastructure
- Serviced industrial land
- CQ National Rugby League Bid
- Rockhampton Riverfront Development and Yeppoon Foreshore Development
Mr Cassidy encouraged community leaders to have copies of the investment folder in their briefcase when meeting entrepreneurs and politicians, to "help us get traction on these visionary priority projects in the pipeline". He pointed out the folder format enables 'achieved' projects to be replaced with fresh 'priority' projects, following successful results.
Cr Carter welcomed the launch of the document, saying it is one of the most innovative, practical and relevant tools ever produced for showcasing the Rockhampton Region's formidable strengths, and offering real investment opportunities. "The infrastructure priorities we have identified are very real investment opportunities that will support the growth of this region and our continued vital contribution to the growth of the Central Queensland, Queensland and Australian economies," Cr Carter said.
Professor Bowman does his share of the media duties
"In a nutshell, this document clearly demonstrates why it's a solid investment for government and business to invest, live, work and play in the Rockhampton Region.
"Our $5.2 billion economy ticks all the boxes and is recognised nationally as a growth centre offering a diversity of business and lifestyle opportunities. Our Region is perfectly located and linked as a critical exporter and service hub for Central Queensland, servicing a catchment of more than 450,000 people.
"Set this within the context of a booming resources economy in Central Queensland and in a nation of rising livings costs and social disconnect, and you can more deeply appreciate that our council, businesses and residents have been working hard to provide affordable housing, jobs and a liveable community that is the envy of Australia."
