Big day out for community

The 11th annual CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day was a very successful event for the University and its partner ABC Capricornia.

About 20,000 people visited the CQU Rockhampton on Sunday to taste the different cultures and enjoy the non-stop performances throughout the campus.

PhotoID:1118 Jazz sensation Grace Knight was a star attraction on the main stage along with bananas in pyjamas and Torres Strait Island performer Seaman Dan. More than 30 international food stalls operated and in total more than 130 sites were occupied on the day.

CQU Vice-Chancellor and President Glenice Hancock this week congratulated everyone who participated in the day, giving particular thanks to Corporate Events officer Gina Yarrow. Professor Hancock also acknowledged the successful preliminary events: the Maltese Photographic Exhibition and the Cooee Bay Artists Exhibition.

“They were all very successful events and again strengthened our relationship with the community,” she said.

“Events such as these require an enormous investment of time and effort. I am particularly appreciative of that investment being made with such good humour and commitment.” The CQ Multicultural Fair is initiative between CQU and ABC Capricornia, with support from The Morning Bulletin.
