Fixes to be suggested for Causeway's shallow water

Tourist activities on the Causeway Lake have been curtailed as certain areas of the lake become too shallow.

The biological life is also changing as some fish can not survive in shallow water.

CQU was assigned to investigate the sedimentation problem and the possible reduction of the problem in the future.

Masters research student in the James Goldston Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems, Budi Soetanto is tackling the problem as sediment is dumped from the sea and from upstream in the Mulambin Creek.

“My research has shown that most of the sediment is coming from the sea and very little from the creek,” Mr Soetanto said, “and I will be making certain recommendations to the Livingstone Shire Council.”.

Mr Soetanto said that the recommendations could include dredging and amelioration works. ENDS Contact: Budi Soetanto 4930 9634 or b.soetanto@cqu.edu.au
