Bundaberg multimedia students exhibit 'New Media Makings'
Published on 03 May, 2006
'New Media Makings' is an exhibition of CQU Bundaberg multimedia student work at the Bundaberg Arts Centre from April 26 - May 28.
The exhibition was officially opened by Acting Head of Bundaberg Campus Dr Helen Huntly and was curated by multimedia lecturer Dr Grayson Cooke with the assistance of the Bundaberg Media Research Group.
Dr Huntly expressed how proud she was of the multimedia students, saying "there was a large crowd and CQU received very positive attention. Well done to all concerned!".
This is the first time many of the students have had work in an exhibition, although hopefully not the last.
Students of multimedia at CQU produce projects in a wide range of media and styles; photography, interactive animation, digital video, and graphic iillustrations, to name just a few.
They produce work in a range of genres, often working across commercial, educational and experimental forms. As such, their work is widely varied, providing a fascinating mix of approaches and styles.
This exhibition contains works by students produced either for assessment in university courses, or as part of their own art practice.
In each case, what emerges strongly from these works is a desire to challenge the limits of possibility – the students’ own limits, and the limits of what is possible to be done with a chosen medium. These works are new media makings – forays into a digital realm where self-expression is the norm and the pixel is the law.
The exhibition is at the Bundaberg Arts Centre, corner Barolin and Quay Sts, until May 28.
