Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Hail Creek Mine and Uni partner for Mackay scholarships 

Seven first-year students seeking to enrol at CQUniversity Mackay in 2010 will once again benefit from the partnership between Hail Creek Mine and CQUniversity. 

The Hail Creek Mine CQUniversity Scholarship Program was established in 2007 to help counter the skills shortage in the Mackay area, encouraging local people to undertake study in Mackay to increase and retain the number of skilled people in the region.

Each scholarship is worth $4000 (payable over 2 years) and will be awarded in the disciplines of Science, Engineering, Business, Nursing, and Information Technology. Applications are open now and up to February 1, 2010. 

Hail Creek Mine General Manager Operations, Andrew Woodley, said all prospective students in the Mackay-Whitsunday area, which includes the mining areas of Moranbah, Dysart and Middlemount, were encouraged to apply for these scholarships to help address the skills shortage.
