Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Staff Member brings National Publishing Awards to CQUniversity 

The Schools Committee of the Australian Publishers Association has re-confirmed Dr. Mike Horsley of CQUniversity as chief judge for the 2010 Australian Awards for Excellence in Educational Publishing.

Dr. Horsley who has joined the staff of CQUniversity in the School of Learning and Innovation, at Noosa,  was the chief judge of the Australian Awards for Excellence in Educational Publishing in 2009, and was the founder of the Awards in 1994. In 2009 430 entries were received in primary, secondary, Tafe and tertiary education from  Australian publishers. The overall winner in 2009 was the Pearson Primary Publication Sharing our Stories. 

Each year copies of over 220 new titles are entered into the Australian Educational Publishing Awards. The short listed and award winning titles are retained by Dr. Horsley. They offer a unique corpus of leading and high quality Australian educational publishing 1994-2009.

A number of researchers, researching changes and innovation in Australian publishing have used this body of titles as the data base for research. Many of the remaining titles are used in teaching education classes to support teaching with high quality current school teaching and learning resources. A significant range of tertiary titles will be donated to CQUniversity's library. The value of titles entered each year exceeds $50,000.

The Australian Publishers Association publish a catalogue of winning and short listed titles to highlight achievement in Australian education publishing.  This catalogue is provided to all schools and public libraries in Australia (12,000 are published) and is also distributed internationally as part of AusTrade assistance in promoting the export of Australian educational publishing.
