Beef steers campus towards community
Published on 18 May, 2009
The busiest ever Beef Australia event in Rockhampton recently prompted a range of positive relationships between the campus and community.
Hundreds of visitors and delegates interacted with our Trade Fair site in the Sidney Kidman Pavilion and many study inquiries were registered.
The CQUniversity Creative Kids Space was visited by over 2000 primary school students from CQ and western regions. Our learning management and digital innovation students had integral roles in this project.
Bachelor of Performing Arts and Bachelor of Music students helped with entertainment at the showgrounds during the big week.
Professor John Rolfe (methane emmisions presentation) and Professor David Midmore (chair of healthy soils and pastures) contributed to the learning aspects of the event.
Towards the end of the week, graduates had the opportunity to drop into a Graduates' Pit Stop to socialise with campus staff and update contact details.
Many other campus staff were involved in the event in a voluntary capacity, in a variety of ways, from taking tickets on the door to assisting international visitors needing interpreting services.
Senior University staff were involved in attending official networking functions to meet politicians, VIPs and international delegates.
Marketing and development staff members - notably Constance May-Moore and Tamsen Clifford-Banks - were involved in organisational and liaison roles before and during the event.
Meanwhile, a visual tribute to the event lives on above the main campus entrance - our special 'Knowledge-a-bull' statue.
