Putting down some roots for education
Published on 23 August, 2010
CQUniversity recently supported the Harmony Working Group on the Capricorn Coast, by supplying brass plaques for its Harmony Day Tree Planting Day at Cedar Park in Yeppoon.
Twelve silver fig trees were dedicated to some of the groups that make up our diverse community on the Capricorn Coast.
The event was to celebrate Harmony Day, and was a joint project between The Harmony Working Group and the Multicultural Group.
Professor Angela Delves planted a tree on behalf of CQUniversity - the Education and Learning Tree. As a supporter of Harmony Day and all it stands for, the University was delighted to be involved in the tree-planting event (which had been rescheduled due to a cyclone on Harmony Day in March).
Like the cultures that have been adopted into our region, the new trees will put down roots, grow and become part of our landscape.
The Harmony Working Group has put together a small booklet to commemorate the occasion and to acknowledge the participation of all the volunteers who made the event possible.
Recently, CQUniversity's Tamsen Clifford-Banks attended a barbecue at the Community Development Centre in Yeppoon, to celebrate the publishing of the booklet that recognises all the trees planted by community members.
If you would like to receive a copy of the booklet, please contact Tamsen Clifford-Banks on 4923 2822, stating if you would like an email version, or a colour printed copy.
