Web feat an 'Otter' sensation thanks to Bundaberg students

Two students from CQU Bundaberg recently presented a live VOD (Video On Demand) broadcast from Under-Water World at Mooloolaba.

Leetice Evans and Kate McDonnell, as a part of their Entrepreneurial Professional course, managed permissions and protocols to present a streaming video workshop from Under-Water World to students at their practicum school at Mapleton.

PhotoID:3473 This was an excellent and innovative example of how to use developing communication technologies, according to Bachelor of Learning Management lecturer John Hunt.

These students worked closely with Hing Ang, Education Officer at Under-Water World.

Leetice and Kate co-presented a live workshop from the otter enclosure with staff member, Dean.

Other schools were invited to ‘look in’, with the broadcast being viewed by staff and students at CQU’s Bundaberg Campus, Kalkie State School (Bundaberg), Coolum State School (Sunshine Coast) and viewers in Melbourne.

Apart from the live presentation, the content also included a pre-recorded workshop about sea lions, sharks, clown fish and sting rays.

This was developed by Leetice and Kate using Apple’s i-Movie software.

The work has been made possible through a research partnership involving Momentum Technology Group, Telstra and Mr Hunt.

"And the good news is the students have been invited to speak to the education staff at Under-Water World about their project, as well as presenting to the Telstra e-World Series to schools around Australia," Mr Hunt said.

"The Bachelor of Learning Management is without doubt at the cutting edge in providing access to futures-oriented technologies.

"It is anticipated other BLM student groups at Bundaberg will be delivering similar workshops from the Bundaberg Art Gallery, the tourist sites of the city, as well as showing students in Bundaberg schools the home of their recent travel buddy, Wambiri (a toy turtle)". These sessions are scheduled for the intensive week of Entrepreneurial Professional, September 25-29.
