Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Dr Ergun Gide was awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Teacher of the Year ($5000) award for his dedication and expertise in university teaching in e-commerce. His awarded was presented at the graduation ceremony is Sydney.

Ingrid Kennedy of the Academic Learning Support Unit was awarded the Pro Vice-Chancellor's Portfolio Award for Teaching Excellence ($1000).

Ms Kennedy believes that creating a fun learning atmosphere is important and that the appropriate use of humour in teaching creates a relaxed learning environment.

Professor John Dekkers and John Voss both received Meritorious Staff Service Medals for 25 years of service, while 30 other staff were acknowledged for 15 years of service to the University.
