Budding high school and university musicians from throughout Queensland with take to the stage as part of the inaugural Asia Pacific Jazz Conference and Great Barrier Reef Jazz Festival on Hamilton Island from September 12.
School students from Gladstone, Moranbah, Rockhampton, Worree and Sarina and CQU university jazz students will attend the event that has attracted internationally renowned musicians and speakers.
The partnership formed between CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music and Hamilton Island allows students to work and learn alongside leading musicians.
CQCM Bachelor of Jazz Studies co-ordinator Glen Hodges said various simultaneous events will provide a unique experience for students and audience members.
“This is a truly unique conference and festival as synergy is created between academic research, student learning and performances for live audiences,” he said.
“The conference will mix an academic activity and a practical event that will allow us to explore further education links on the island.
“Workshops will be given to the secondary school students, with the Conservatorium students playing with visiting presenters and performers in various venues around the island." Performers such as Grace Knight, Malcolm McNeil, Don Rader, Michael Davidson and Graham Jessie will be among those entertaining the crowds at the September 12-14 event.
