Art, architecture and memories on offer in Library
Published on 22 July, 2004
Art and architecture displays and author recitals from the Down Memory Lane book series are among attractions due at the Library during the CQ Multicultural Fair and University Open Day.
The Education Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art Touring Exhibition will be on show at the Library during the Fair (and later until September 3). The touring exhibition includes the 45 best artworks from the Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art program. This program recognises outstanding senior school artwork.
The J.W. Wilson architectural display has been arranged by the Library’s CQ Collection team. Architect John William Wilson (1829-1915) designed over 200 buildings in Central Queensland, over 80 of those being in Rockhampton. The display will include early and later photographs of buildings designed by J.W. Wilson as well as some of his original architectural plans.
Four authors will share extracts from the Down Memory Lane local history book series, from 10am-noon in the ground floor Reading Room.
The Division of University Relations will conduct Tours of the Library. Bookings for this will be managed in the Discover CQU tent and will depart from this tent at regular intervals.
A Multi-Choice Competition based on recycling and the environment will be open to primary and secondary students. Winners will be randomly drawn from entries with the correct answers. Books which include the answers will be displayed near the entries counter on the first floor.
The Library will stage a display relating to the Community Waste Saver Awards.
