Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Graduate a globe-trotting Microsoft MVP 

Emerald-based graduate Glen Millar has a day job with Natural Resources and Mines involving large-scale catchment research and computer-modelling.

PhotoID:1618 But he has also developed a business as a Microsoft Powerpoint guru.

Mr Millar recently won an international award from Microsoft known as a Microsoft PowerPoint MVP (Most Valuable Professional) Award.

While there are a range of MVPs for various Microsoft technologies in Australia, Mr Millar is the only Australian awardee in his category and one of only 19 currently in the world.

"Shortly after graduation, I fly to San Diego to deliver a keynote address at PowerPoint Live," he said.

Mr Millar has built a Powerpoint tutorial website, is active in online user groups and helped Beta-test the latest Microsoft software.

Microsoft has previously invited him to speak at conferences in Tuscon (2003) and Seattle (April, 2004).

Mr Millar will graduate this Saturday with a Bachelor of Science (Biology).
