CQU Operating From New Campus in Suva

Students enrolled at Central Queensland University’s (CQU) Fiji International Campus have, this week, moved into new facilities located at 3rd Floor, 1 Ratu Dovi Road, Vinod Patel Plaza, Centrepoint, Laucala Beach Estate, Nasinu.

This move has occurred because the site CQU has occupied since 1998 was sold last year by TELECOM Fiji to the University of the South Pacific (USP), which requires vacant possession by April 1, 2004.

CQU Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Glenice Hancock, said this move to a well-equipped and conveniently located campus site is a very positive step in strengthening CQU’s commitment to the community in Fiji and to the students enrolled in CQU programs of study. Campus Group (Fiji) has now formally signed a lease with Vinod Patel and Company Ltd for the new campus site, so we are delighted to be able to reassure the staff, students and community that our programs will continue,” Professor Hancock said.

“Now that a new campus site has been assured, we are delighted to be presenting such a strong face again in Suva. A senior and experienced academic staff member from CQU’s Rockhampton campus, Mr Darryl Alcock, has been on site this week and will remain during next week to assist local staff and students during the settling-in period,” Professor Hancock said.

“I extend my warmest appreciation and good wishes to the staff and students who have been so loyal to CQU during the period leading up to the finalisation of the new campus. I particularly wish to acknowledge the outstanding leadership of Mr Ray Scarlett, Campus Director. I look forward to visiting our new campus in early April and to attending our next graduation ceremony on 5 April 2004,” added Professor Hancock.
