Orientation Week kicked off the university year for about 3000 new students for Central Queensland University.
In Rockhampton, O’Week began with a Parents & Partners Evening on Monday, followed the official welcome by the Vice-Chancellor & President, Professor Glenice Hancock on Tuesday morning.
New students were offered the opportunity to be linked with student mentors – second or third year students who helped with familiarisation with the campus and university in general.
Faculties provided students will specific program information and aided some students in making course selections.
Sessions throughout the week focused on time management, getting the most out of lectures, study skills and using the library.
“Orientation is a student’s survival guide to successful study,” First Year Experience Coordinator Olive Mallory said.
“There is an expectation that first year students will be able to ‘hit the ground running’ on day one of the first term, so it is important to be prepared.”.
The CQU Student Association provided some great entertainment throughout the week including Inter-Faculty Mini Olympics, Toga Party and a lunchtime movie. Tomorrow students will be treated to a night of music from bands such as The Tenants, Shutterspeed and the Daisy Cutters.
On Sunday, students have the opportunity to cruise to Great Keppel Island for their last party before beginning term one on Monday.
