Major geological event foreseen in Mackay

The Bowen Basin is undergoing significant change and Mackay is due for an unusual geological event within weeks that will have a profound effect on the region for decades to come, say scientists.

Five hundred geologists, researchers and other international specialists are focusing on the epicentre: the Mackay Entertainment Centre.

More than 30 major mining and associated companies, organisations including CQUniversity Australia, and hundreds of delegates will witness and partake in the 6th Bowen Basin Symposium, coming together for the first time since 2005 to discuss the step-changes noted, achievements made and challenges ahead for Central Queensland's Bowen Basin.
