Images of Early Childhood on display at Gladstone

Gladstone’s Bachelor of Learning Management students in their first and second years of studies recently held an exhibition for their colleagues, family and friends.
The exhibition, Images of Early Childhood, was a result of the student’s work from two courses, Images of Childhood and Challenges for Early Childhood Education.
The students were asked to use a range of skills in two or more media to develop a creative project that explored their chosen topic in an imaginative way and effectively communicated the key ideas to their audience.
BLM lecturer, Lyn Hughes said children are the most vulnerable members of society and part of the role of Early Childhood Educators is to advocate for the children’s well being.
“We must therefore understand children and childhood as it is constructed in our culture as well as other cultures and what society expects of us as their teachers.
“These courses encouraged students to analyse how the many images of children found in the media and other texts positions children, what it says about society's attitude to children and how it might influence and reflect the laws and policy that affect children,” Ms Hughes said.
The United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child was also included in the analysis.
The students explored issues from many different angles that lead to a colourful and thought-provoking exhibition attended by many family and friends.
