CQU strengthens ties with Queensland Health

A new sign has been erected at the Rockhampton Base Hospital to signify the growing relationship between Central Queensland University and Queensland Health.

PhotoID:3679 The sign was established to mark the collaborative efforts between CQU Nursing and Health Studies and Queensland Health to both provide and retain professional nurses in regional hospitals.

Head of School for Nursing and Health Studies at CQU, Dr Lorna Moxham said strong relationships between universities and health service providers are a positive way of addressing the current skill shortage.

“Providing students with clinical experience produces competent graduates who are more workforce ready. It gives them a real taste of what they will be doing as registered nurses,” Dr Moxham said.

About 135 CQU Nursing and Health students go through the Queensland Health system each year on community and clinical placements.
